Cardiovascular fitness (cardio) is an important ingredient for health. It would be an indication of a strong heart, healthy lungs, and an excellent circulation system. Your cardio vascular system can be built with aerobic exercise and with even exercises where you are not moving fast like yoga, pilates, and weight training.
Cardio is improved by raising the heart beat. Walking, running, biking, swimming and treadmills are advantageous because not only can you extend the duration, but you can increase the speed. Intervals are increasing the intensity from your average pace to a pace that makes it harder to breathe and talk at the same time. Interval intensity can be increased by increasing speed, duration, and reducing the rest between the intervals.
Surfing is very aerobic because paddling is tiring, has intensity, and then gives you a little rest in between rides. The greater a surfer’s cardiovascular fitness, the longer he can train to improve. Cardiovascular fitness is also important if a surfer wants to paddle to the outside and catch bigger waves. He wants to have confidence he won’t get tired during the challenge and especially if he has an emergency, like getting buried under big waves.
